A WOMAN was rescued after she fell into the River Ouse near Lendal Bridge in York.

The incident happened at around 11.45pm on Saturday.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews from York and Acomb along with York rescue boat, were called to assist with reports of a female in the River Ouse near Lendal Bridge.

"The female was rescued from the water by York Rescue Boat. Fire crews stood by until she was transferred to ambulance."

In a statement, York Rescue Boat said: "York Rescue Boat became aware that door staff were looking for a person who had entered the River Ouse near Lendal Bridge. At the same time, one of our regular foot patrols had also seen the person in the water.

"Our foot patrols and boat attended, the person having been rescued by members of the public as we arrived on scene. Our team stayed on scene to provide initial first aid then to assist the emergency services attending the casualty."
