TWO piles of rubbish were set on fire in York city centre in the early hours of today.
North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said firefighters from Acomb extinguished a small pile of rubbish with a hose reel in Low Ousegate at 3.15am.
The Acomb crew also went to Parliament Street at 4am following reports of another small pile of rubbish on fire in the doorway of commercial premises.
"The fire was out on arrival after being extinguished by a member of the public using a bucket of water," said a spokesperson.
