I SEE that senior members of the Establishment are saying that if President Macron forces us out of the EU deal-less it will sour Anglo-French relations for a generation.

Au contraire, I would suggest that if he gave us back the freedom that we enjoyed for a millennium his name would be revered by many millions of us.

Brexit is all about preserving Tories

YOU report that Selby’s MP Nigel Adams has resigned his government posts because Theresa May is holding Brexit talks with Jeremy Corbyn, ‘a Marxist who has never once in his political life put British interests first’ (Tory MP resigns as minister and whip, April 4).

Has Mr Adams considered that, in this momentous undertaking, the Prime Minister should have co-operated with all the parties throughout, not called on one at the last moment?

Has he forgotten that the Brexit process has been conducted throughout, not to serve British interests, but to preserve the Conservative Party?

For 35 years Jeremy Corbyn MP has defended the rights of oppressed and exploited people in Britain and elsewhere – some of them victims of ‘British interests’.

Does Mr Adams see human rights and wellbeing as alien to Britain’s real interests?

Nigel Adams probably thinks ‘Marxist’ is a term of abuse.

But when I look at the policies he supports - a ‘hostile environment’ not just for the Windrush generation but for doctors, nurses, teachers, police, firefighters, local councils, the poor, the jobless, the homeless, the young, the old, the disabled – I realise there are far worse things a British MP could be than a Marxist.

A Conservative, for example.
