A CELEBRATION will be held in York to mark the Sinhalese New Year in Sri Lanka.
The event will be held at York St John University’s Students’ Union Hall, off Lord Mayor’s Walk, on Saturday from 2.30pm until around 11pm.
Organised by the York Sri Lankan Association, the event will feature traditional Sri Lankan dancing, games and food.
Thilini Wijeratne, a PhD student at the university, said: “Since there are nearly 18 Sri Lankan families in the city of York, we expect around 110 participants for the event.
“It is the first time that the city of York will be having such a celebration.”
