A WOMAN trapped in a car, a man trapped in a bathroom, a ring trapped on a finger, a mattress set alight and a garage on fire ... just five of the random incidents busy firefighters dealt with overnight in York and North Yorkshire.
North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said crews from Northallerton and Yarm rescued the female driver of a car after a two-vehicle crash at Low Worsall, near Yarm, yesterday evening.
"Hydraulic cutting gear was used to remove the car roof before the driver was taken to hospital in an ambulance," said a spokesperson. "Her injuries did not appear to be serious."
An Acomb crew used a backpack sprayer to extinguish a burning pile of rubbish, including a mattress, which had been deliberately set on fire in a field at Chapelfields, York, while a Scarborough crew used a bucket of water to extinguish a rubbish fire started by youths in Maple Drive.
A crew at Harrogate Fire used specialist cutting equipment to remove a ring from a man's swollen finger after he turned up asking for help. He was then advised to attend hospital for a check on his swollen finger.
York firefighters released a man after he became trapped inside a bathroom by a faulty door lock, while York and Acomb crews extinguished a fire in a garage in Acomb, with a fire investigation officer asked to attend to look into the blaze.
