A NEW pop up gin shop has moved in to one of York's most historic buildings - and the company invited The Press to have a first look inside before opening the doors to customers.

York Gin, which launched just over a year ago, has taken on the unit in Sir Thomas Herbert’s House on Pavement.

The award-winning distillery will be selling a selection of spirits and merchandise from the store.

The building is owned by York Conservation Trust and used to be home to Jones the Bootmaker, before becoming a pop-up York Against Cancer store. But it has lain empty since the charity shop closed.

Its new tenants have breathed fresh life into the unique building with a temporary refit.

Sir Thomas Herbert’s House dates back to the 16th century and is one of the city’s most photographed landmarks. York Conservation Trust is planning to completely renovate the site at the end of the summer.
