POLICE were called to the sudden death of a man in a village near Selby.

Officers attended the incident at a house in Hemingbrough shortly after 8.40pm on Sunday.

A statement was posted on North Yorkshire Police's Facebook page yesterday saying: "Selby police want to reassure members of the public following rumours that are currently circulating about an incident in Hemingbrough on Sunday evening.

"Police were called to the sudden death of a man at around 8.40pm on 31 March 2019. Officers believe there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the man’s death, they are not looking for anyone else in connection with it.

"Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this sad time and we ask that members of the public respect their privacy and allow them to come to terms with the death of their loved one in peace."

The statement added that a report will be prepared for the coroner to inform an inquest at a later date.
