A TERRIFYING character from Pocklington’s dim and distant past is coming to York Dungeon for its “most intense and horrifying show in its 33-year history”.

Most people know all about historical figures such as Guy Fawkes and Dick Turpin, but Isabella Billington’s disturbing story is even more gruesome.

Isabella was hanged for witchcraft on Knavesmire in 1679 after cruci-

fying her mother in a satanic ritual.

Her story is so terrifying that the Dungeon is going to bless the room before anyone sets foot inside when the show opens on April 13.

General manager Marc Bell said: “We’re stripping back the special effects and focusing on the story and performance.

“Guests will have trouble sleeping after experiencing this one.”

Actor Richard Barker added: “Ironically, the show has been set up in our notorious ghost room, so called because there have been plenty of spooky happenings over the years.

“Since the new show’s gone in, strange things seem to be happening more and more.”
