AN open letter to the Prime Minister, Theresa May:

If only our politicians could show the same passion for our oldest and most vulnerable adults as they have done in recent days during the debates over Brexit, social care wouldn’t still be in the ongoing crisis it is today.

I wrote to all 650 MPs calling on them to tackle a situation that has resulted in 1.4 million people going without the care they need. That I got fewer than 10 replies speaks volumes about the priority some politicians place on the care of this section of our society.

I know there are other, very pressing issues - Brexit itself and rising knife crime to name just two - and I would never wish to belittle the importance of these or many others.

But Brexit in particular has become such an all-encompassing distraction that nothing else is being addressed, including that most basic of human rights – to be looked after and cared for.

The long-promised Green Paper on social care still hasn’t arrived and even when it does, it will doubtless only be a starting point for debate and discussion.

Speaking as a care provider looking after people today, I am asking for Government action on social care now, not next month or next year. If there was the same political will over this as there is over Brexit, it could be addressed immediately.

That is the least the 1.4 million who aren’t getting care deserve.

Conduct of MPs is a disgrace to country

DO politicians know what democracy means? It is the will of the majority. But today’s politicians seem to have their own agenda.

It was David Cameron who put the referendum forward and then disappeared.

Theresa May was voted leader of a weak government and weakened it further with the unnecessary election.

All the negotiations were conducted by a weak government which has kowtowed to the EU’s demands and dictates.

This is making the whole country suffer and we are still being dictated to by EU bureaucrats.

We joined the Common Market, not the EU.

Over the past weeks we have seen how bad Parliament really is, with the childish behaviour of politicians hooting and deriding each other.

Do what you were voted in to do - carry out the will of the majority. Deal or no deal, come out.

I believe that the way all parties in Parliament have conducted themselves is a disgrace to this country and has been managed to undermine the democratic decision of the people as well as to weaken the respect of other counties.

This can do untold harm to the economic situation in the UK.

We don’t have to be stuck in Europe

IT is a disgrace that Tim Murgatroyd has the audacity to compare the poster ‘Daddy, what did you do in the Great War?’ to today’s ‘Mummy, Daddy what did you do to prevent a no deal Brexit?’ (Time to halt this colossal mistake, March 27).

Let him go and visit the war graves in Europe and remind himself of what all these men did. They gave their lives so we could have our freedom.

Those young men never had a chance to enjoy that freedom. They are stuck in Europe: we do not have to be.

As for his statement “time to halt this colossal mistake”, it is not all doom and gloom. The majority of people voted to leave: let’s be gone.

The policy of the EU from the beginning was to punish the UK for daring to vote to leave by having a no deal scenario (fear tactics), or the worst deal possible so other countries would be afraid to vote to leave.

Let’s get out and start proper trade deals, beginning with near neighbours the Netherlands and Belgium then those with high volumes of trade like Germany and France.

You will find that as they will suffer the biggest economic impact from Brexit, they will be more than willing to trade with us.

We are becoming a laughing stock

Brexit appears to behave now like Apollo 13, where, “We have a problem Houston!”

We must keep the Brexit blue marble vision clearly in our sight window. It will be a rough heart-wrenching journey with much sacrifice as we have observed, almost like giving birth.

Our future must be worth more than becoming the laughing stock of Europe.

Answer to life after Brexit is out there

Unclear about life after Brexit? According to an HM Government advertisement on Page 15 of The Press on Friday, March 29 you just need to go to gov.uk/euexit.

Shouldn’t someone tell our MPs?
