THIS huge house - once home to the general manager of York's Rowntree Cocoa Works - is going on the market.

Beverley House, a red brick building off Shipton Road and close to Homestead Park, dates from the Victorian era and has established gardens at the back and parking in front.

It is being offered for sale by informal tender, with buyers having until noon on Friday May 10 to submit offers for the four-storey building.

The house was divided into flats at one stage before being extended and converted into office accommodation but now has strong potential for conversion back to residential use, say agents Savills Leeds.

Other options for the 0.7 acre site, which is situated in a conservation area, include care use - subject to planning -and retention as offices.

Savills director Matthew Jones said: "We are anticipating a great deal of interest in the site.”

A spokeswoman said there was no guide price for this property.
