LIFE is one long, hard slog for Hull fish factory workers Pearl, Jan, Shelley and Linda, but their fortunes are set to change when they head to Ladies' Day at the races.

Factory hairnets make way for fascinators as the four friends hit the racecourse for an unforgettable day out in Amanda Whittington's rollicking romp of a comedy, premiered at Hull Truck Theatre in 2005 and now back on track in Pick Me Up Theatre's revival in York.

Secrets are spilled with the Champagne and friendships are tested to the limit, but as the day unfolds and tempers fray, their accumulator bet keeps quietly winning. If their luck and their nerve hold, the ladies could hit the jackpot and more besides.

Directed by Robert Readman, Pick Me Up's production canters home at the John Cooper Studio @41Monkgate from April 9 to 13 with a cast of Bromwyn Jennison as Pearl; Rosy Rowley as Jan; Florence Poskitt as Linda and Maya Tether as Linda, on her return to York from the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, in London, expressly to to do the show.

Andrew Isherwood and Adam Sowter will share out the male roles, memorably played by York Theatre Royal pantomime perennial Martin Barrass in the Hull Truck premiere.

Tickets for the 7.30pm evening performances and 2.30pm Saturday matinee are on sale at pickmeuptheatre.com or on 01904 623568.
