A REENACTMENT of the Battle of Waterloo helped raise more than £200 for children in Malawi.
The event at St Olave’s Church in York, organised by Paul Johnson, was a miniature re-creation the battle using 5,000 painted figures. The display was held to help raise funds for the Bright Future Foundation, which helps children in Malawi to attend secondary school.
Paul was inspired to re-create the battle after visiting Belgium for the 200th anniversary in 2015, where 6,000 re-enactors took part in a spectacular display.
He said: “We raised £200 for brightfuturefoundation.org.uk to fund the secondary school education of two children in Malawi for the next 12 months. Seventy-five pounds were from members of the public who walked in off the street to see the game - a brilliant result all round.”
