YORK is the best city in the UK for mobile phone coverage, according to a new app.

The yboo app was set up to offer "personalised network recommendations to ensure users can access the best signal strength", by analysing data on usage of minutes, texts, data and WiFi.

According to the app's My Coverage Map feature, York has the best mobile signal across all four major networks, followed by Llandudno, Norwich, Belfast and Glasgow.

Martyn Gould is founder and CEO at yboo, and has formerly worked as a consultant with Virgin Media, Fujitsu, TalkTalk and Sky.

He said: "This is the first time that the public has been able to access accurate, unbiased and transparent information relating to signal strength in a way that is relevant and personalised for them.

"The mobile industry has been notoriously confusing for the past 15 years and our goal is to help people to find the best network based on their usage of minutes, texts, data and WiFi in the places that are most important for them. Not only can people make significant savings on their mobile bills, but they can also avoid that most irritating of situations – getting cut off due to a lack of signal."
