A FOOTBALL team's recent appeal for support in The Press has prompted a local care home to take action.

The appeal from Strensall Tigers was spotted by Gill Conroy, owner of Apple Tree Care Home.

Gill said: "We have been in Strensall for many years (originally called Galtres) and are very much part of the community.

"I read about the appeal on the letters page and, because we have sponsored a junior football team before and it was local to one of our care homes, it caught my eye.

"Our care role is community wide and we all saw this as a great way to support keen young sports people in our area."

Apple Tree Care Home has donated £500, which will help buy new training kit for the under-fives team.

Vice chairman and coach, Chris Dyson, said: "It's amazing that Apple Tree Care Home has decided to support us.

"The funding will ensure training tops for our youngest age group.

"It was great to meet some of the staff and show them our team in action."
