VOLUNTEERS at a lifesaving charity in York have been out in The city over the last two days encouraging people to wear orange and donate to their cause.

The team at York Rescue Boat have been asking people to Go Orange for Independent Lifeboats - a campaign to raise money to support lifeboat charities.

People were asked to wear something orange today and donate £1 to York Rescue Boat.

Organiser, Matthew Sellers, said the last two days had been a great success, and the charity had raised more than £1,000 so far.

He said: "Several different charities, including Speed Hire, Carol Saunders swim school have been wearing orange to sponsor us.

"There have also been cake schools and non uniforms days from St Georges primary school and Carr Infant School.

"So far we have raised £1,363.

"We have other events going on today including a meet the crew event and some of our volunteers will be in Sainsburys, Foss Bank, and Tesco Askham Bar."

Matthew added that they are hoping to make Go Orange an annual event.
