The ARRIVAL of butterflies is a always sign that spring has sprung, and visitors to the York’s Coppergate Centre will now be greeted by bright and cheery insects to help mark the beginning of the season.

On Thursday over 100 butterflies were put up in Coppergate by the Shopping centre.

Coppergate Centre's manager, Pippa Unwin, said: "Our previous displays of brollies have been incredibly popular, with the Coppergate Centre highlighted as one of the top ten umbrella streets in the world in a recent online report.

“We’re determined to build on this new reputation as one of the most ‘Instagrammable’ locations in the city with a full season of installations that bring vibrant colour to Coppergate Walk, adding to our established culture, shopping and food and drink offering.”

The colourful butterflies will remain in place until the end of April, with a free butterfly trail available for younger visitors throughout the month. Trail sheets can be collected from leaflet dispensers around the centre, and those completing it can enter an online free draw to win prizes from some of Coppergate’s key stores and attractions.

Mrs Unwin added: “The Coppergate Centre is a wonderfully family-friendly venue in the city centre, with on-site parking in Piccadilly car park, and children particularly well catered-for with a fantastic children’s fashion department in Primark, shoes in Clark’s, toy shop on the lower floor of Fenwick, quirky arts and craft kits from Flying Tiger and The Works and, of course, JORVIK Viking Centre.

“This free trail is a great way of engaging children of all ages during a trip into the city centre.”
