A pedestrianised area was cordoned off at the side of Harkers on Lendal.
The crews left the scene at around 10.30am and the cordon has been removed.
A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews used the aerial ladder platform to inspect the roof and removed the loose material from the roof and the gutter."
