A DRIVER had to be rescued by firefighters after he got stuck in a ford in Ripon as river levels rose.
The River Swale and its tributaries in and around the cathedral city were on flood alert because of last night's heavy rain at the time.
Firefighters said they believed his engine had cut out as he drove through a ford mid-afternoon.
Specialist water rescue teams winched his vehicle out of the water and freed him.
