BANDS and singers from York and across the country are continuing to provide a musical extravaganza in the city this month to raise money for the developing world.

The event, called Oxjam, began on October 1 and will see numerous acts at 3,000 events.

The event is being billed as the biggest musical festival of all time and is twice the size of last year's inaugural festival.

The aim is to raise £1 million for Oxfam.

Events in York include a live DJ set from Shed Seven and a mass Buskathon around the city.

Acts are also travelling from all over the country to play in York Singer/songwriter Mark Mathews is based in north London, but will be at The Junction, in Leeman Road, York, on October 27.

At the same event, which is on all day, there will also be sets from The Reveals, Van, Lips Akimbo, Welcome the Tourist, Heartstring, Tour de France, Black and White Tango and The Element.

Shed Seven will also be DJing at the event.

Mark contacted The Press and said he wanted to drum up support for the event to raise as much cash as possible for Oxfam.

Other events include the Buskathon on October 20 which will see musicians and singers playing throughout York city centre in a bid to raise cash for Oxfam.

Buskathons will be happening simultaneously in cities across the country.

Then, on October 27, York St John University C4C Chapel will hold a world music evening hosted by Vanessa Simmons.

Oxjam was launched in London on October 1 and has been supported by chart-topping acts throughout the country. One of Oxfam's London charity shops hosted an exclusive gig with performances from Jarvis Cocker, The Kooks, Fatboy Slim, Hot Chip and Jamelia.
