FIREARMS officers who were in this police car when it crashed on the A64 were able to climb out and arrest a suspect in another crashed car, it emerged today.

The damaged police car is pictured by local amateur photographer Mike Brown being taken away after yesterday's collision near Malton, which blocked the westbound carriageway for several hours.

The crash happened when police were tracking a vehicle being driven by a man suspected of involvement in armed robberies, and North Yorkshire Police said yesterday that the man had been arrested after the collision.

Now PC Liam Cromack has revealed in a tweet that it was firearms unit officers in the police car who carried out the arrest, tweeting that he was 'so glad' when he heard that they were left uninjured in the collision and able to arrest the suspect driver.
