THE mother of a young man who drowned in York's River Foss will mark the ninth anniversary of his death by staging an annual car boot sale in York on Sunday.

Joanne Wigmore will be raising money for the British Heart Foundation, her son Jonathan Havron's favourite charity.

She is hoping for better weather conditions than last year, when the 'Beast from the East' meant she was the only stallholder at the car boot sale, held at Murton, but still managed to raise more than £300.

Jonathan 18, of Huntington, went missing at the end of a night out in York city centre on February 27, 2010.

A massive hunt was launched, but his body was found in the Foss a fortnight later.

The annual fundraising event is intended to be something constructive in Jonathan's memory and a celebration of his life.

The BHF was his favourite charity, having worked for it as a volunteer.

Joanne said Sunday's car boot at Murton starts at 6am, and her stall, situated inside near the animal pens, would sell books, DVDs. clothes and bric-a-brac, and there would be a tombola and a raffle for two tickets to see York City play on March 23.
