THE York School of Dance and Drama presents principal Lesley Ann Eden’s “choreo-drama” The Never Ending Story at the Grand Opera House, York, tomorrow evening.

“The show will be our version of the cult 1985 film,” says Lesley Ann. “The story, which tackles the theme of bullying in school, is very relevant today and our production follows the fantasy of a child who finds an ancient magic book where the characters help her to resolve her victimisation by a gang of bullies.

What will differ from Wolfgang Petersen’s movie? “In the original film, the pink love dragon plays a major role in the plot, but apparently she has gone on holiday in our show, and taking her place is a little green dragon whose magic is not quite as powerful, wonderfully played by Aiden Strangeways.”

Lesley Ann’s choreo-drama this weekend will feature a typically large cast. “Our show has a great community feel, with parents who attend classes performing alongside their children,” she says.

“There’ll also be students from many York schools and York College, together with York City Dance, run by Gemma O’Connor, but this year the outstanding feature, of which I’m most proud, is the Lads and Dads Class, who’ll be performing with mums and children. Strictly a performance not to be missed!”

Tickets for tomorrow’s 6pm performance are on sale on 0844 871 3024 or at atgtickets.com/york

THE Johnny Cash Roadshow, the only tribute to be endorsed by the Man in Black's family, returns to the Grand Opera House, York, tonight with a one-off new production for 2019.

Frontman Clive John dedicates this year's show to a 50th anniversary tour of Cash's legendary San Quentin State Prison recordings, first televised on Granada Television on February 24 1969 and later released on vinyl on June 4 that same year.

Alongside Clive's Cash will be Emily Heighway in the guise of Johnny's wife, June Carter, plus the Spirit band and the JCR horn section. Together they perform songs from the San Quentin live album and further Cash favourites, all supported with full video projection. "This show is only coming round once, so don’t miss out," advises Clive.
