THE hunt is on for York’s next town crier and there’s still time to submit your application.
City of York Council is still on the lookout for a volunteer to make public announcements in the streets after the current Sheriff of York was not announced when attending several events in the city centre.
Applicants for the role will be auditioned at a ‘trial cry’ on the steps of the Mansion House.
If plans go ahead, £1,600 would be spent on livery for the role and a further £150 would go towards the bell, scroll, travel expenses and other accessories.
Applicants should have experience and knowledge of York.
Applications can be collected from City of York Council's West Offices, in Station Rise, or the Visit York Information Centre in Museum Street.
For a digital application, contact Laura Clark, democratic and civic services manager, at Laura.Clark@york.gov.uk.
Applications for the voluntary role should be submitted by 12pm on Friday, March 8.
