SHOPPERS will only be able to park at the Vangarde retail centre next to the new Community Stadium for two hours on match days.

Visitors to the shopping park can usually park for up to four hours for free between 9am and 6pm.

But on match days, parking will be restricted to two hours for anyone who visits between 12pm and 4pm on a weekend, or between 5pm and 9pm on weekday evenings.

The parking situation is revealed as it emerged that fans may be charged £10 to park at York’s new Community Stadium on match days.

The shopping park site has room for more than 1,300 cars and upon entry an electronic sign registers a vehicle’s number plate and says when parking will expire.

A spokesman for the centre said signs indicating the two-hour match day restrictions have always existed at the site.

People who want to use the leisure facilities at the new Community Stadium will also face parking restrictions on match days.

Planning documents say the 268-space south car park can be used by visitors using the cinema, restaurants and other facilities at the stadium on days when there is a game - but they will only be allowed to stay for up to two hours.

The Community Stadium will have an IMAX cinema with 14 screens, a swimming pool, a gym and fitness studio, a community hub with a library and facilities for NHS outpatient services.

There are also plans for a 10 pin bowling centre and indoor mini golf venue, as well as restaurants and retail units.
