Further to the letters to The Press relating to the traffic problems around York station, can I suggest the following simple solution?
At present the traffic flows round tea-shop square in a clockwise direction. My suggestion is to reverse the direction around the square.
At present the taxis exit the station, turn left and circumnavigate the square before joining Station Road.
With the traffic direction reversed the taxis would exit right from the station to join Station Road and the traffic entering the short stay car park would no longer cross the exiting taxi traffic.
This would give priority to taxis and reduce the frustration for visitors watching the taxi meter clocking up charges before they have left the station complex - which is not a good first impression when visiting our beautiful city.
All it would need is some signage changes and possibly some additional road markings.
