TWO students at a York secondary school are celebrating receiving offers from Oxford University following their applications and interviews during the autumn term.

Jamie Davies and Phoebe Mountain both go to Joseph Rowntree School in New Earswick and have been offered places to study medicine on the condition that they meet offers of A*AA.

Both Jamie and Phoebe were among fewer than 180 students offered places from over 1,700 applicants from the UK and further afield, their long standing work ethic and determination helping them in such a challenging and competitive field.

Ben Coleman, director of sixth form, said: “All of us at Joseph Rowntree School are immensely proud of Jamie and Phoebe following their successful interviews at Oxford. Both of them have worked incredibly hard to receive these offers, and to be among the 10 per cent of applicants for medicine who have received offers is testament to their all round qualities. Our Oxbridge support programme throughout year 12 and 13 helped them to prepare for pre interview testing and the interview process as well as aiding them in producing high quality applications. We also have a large number of students holding offers at top Russell Group universities including York, Leeds, Newcastle, Bristol, UCL and Warwick and will be continuing to work with all of our students in year 13 to help them meet their conditional offers and take the next steps in their educational journeys.”
