A PICKERING firm has seen sales of one of its products go through the roof after it was featured on social media.

The Dustpan and Brush Store, based on the Thornton Road Industrial Estate, specialises in supplying cleaning items.

Tom Thorp, from the company, said: “The Dustpan and Brush Store was started with the aim to supply the widest range possible of brushes, brooms and dustpans.

“Many traditional items and quality products get lost over the years and we aim to try and stock a range of these and bring them back to the mass market.”

“At the moment we sell mainly on eBay, Amazon and our own website, but we also supply a few local businesses, which is something we would love to grow going forward.

“At the end of last week, a lady called Mrs Hinch, who has around 1.8 million followers on Instagram and has featured on ITV’s This Morning, advertised how good window squeegees are at removing pet hair from carpets.

“Off the back of this we were one of the cheapest suppliers of squeegees on eBay and in the space of 24 hours sold more than 3,000 squeegees, which all had to be individually wrapped and sent out from our base here in Pickering.”

Tom said they were now taking pre-orders for when more stock arrives.

“It has been a mad but brilliant few days and we want to thank everyone for their support and kind words,” he said.

“Feedback from our customers has been amazing and without them we wouldn’t be here, so we thank them all.”

Tom added: “We are now looking into how influencers around the world can help grow our business and deliver jobs here in Pickering, as well as becoming the one-stop shop for everyone’s brush needs.”
