I entirely agree with Keith Massey (Letters, February 20) about the diabolical way traffic is shunted around leaving York station.

This congestion is worsened when commuter arrivals from west, east and north of York arrive almost simultaneously, and commuters flood out of the station with a right of way over the zebra crossing and are then corralled at the pelican crossing in their hordes, blocking the footpath.

Surely it must have occurred to someone in authority by now that the zebra crossing also needs to be made into a pelican crossing and the two crossings sequenced so that both traffic and pedestrians can move in turn and in safety?

Maybe those in authority should pay the extra taxi charge imposed on those who get held up as a result?
