YORK'S first family wellbeing day is being held to help children cope with stress and anxiety.

The event will take place on Sunday, March 10, from 1.30pm-5pm at Hotel du Vin, The Mount, York, with tickets costing £5 for adults and free for under 18s.

There will be ten workshops for people to take part in, covering everything from how to manage stress, worry or anxiety, to improving sleep and starting a creative journal.

Organiser Juliet Powell said it was aimed at families with school-aged children and follows a Wellbeing Day in October which was aimed at adults.

She said she wanted this event to focus on school-aged children to help give them strategies to cope with mental health challenges.

She said: "It's about giving them supportive techniques to create a calmer environment at home, or to support them when their examinations come up."

There will be a series of 30-minute workshops running throughout the afternoon in two meeting rooms, in addition to the main exhibition area in the courtyard area, explained Juliet.

Parents and children will have a chance to meet health and wellbeing practitioners and professionals from the York area who specialise in working with families, she added.

Workshops available on the day will include a session on practical techniques to help children self-manage in times of worry, stress or anxiety and one on story massage, described as "safe touch in your home, school and the wider community".
