CHILDREN who have to spend their free time caring for others are to receive £2,000 worth of fun and support.
The current Master Cordwainer of the Company of Cordwainers of the City of York, John Apps, handed over the money to York Young Carers.
The Master adopted the charity, which supports children under 18 who care for a relative, as his charity during his year in office.
He was inspired to do so by the story of one young carer in particular and heard that hundreds of children in York have to act as carers for their parents and other relatives and lose the carefree side of childhood.
The money, which was raised by a musical evening and a charity golf event will be spent on providing outings for the children and other forms of support.
