A TOP York hotel has announced plans to revive its outdoor cinema this summer following its successful screenings last year.

The Principal’s giant outdoor screen saw more than 2,000 people enjoy the charm of watching a selection of movies under the stars amidst the hotel’s landscaped gardens last summer.

This year, five special screenings of recent releases are being planned by the hotel for June and July.

The screenings all start at 7pm.

The films being shown this year are Bohemian Rhapsody on June 7; a sing-a-long screening of The Greatest Showman on June 28; Mamma Mia 2 on July 5; A Star is Born on July 14; and Rocky Horror on July 19.

Tracy Harrison, general manager of the hotel on Station Road, said: “We’re very excited to announce our plans to bring back the outdoor screen to The Principal this summer.

“This year we asked people to choose which films will be screened via our social media channels and much like last year, we’re inviting filmgoers to bring their own seating, from deckchairs to blankets.

“We’ve made a few tweaks to make our outdoor cinema experience even more unique and look forward to welcoming film lovers to enjoy a movie moment with us.”

Principal cinema tickets, priced at £15, include a set of headphones and will be on sale from the hotel from Friday, February 15.

A range of refreshment packages are also available.

Meanwhile, the hotel has a busy social programme planned with a Queen-themed evening on May 17.

Tickets are £30 each and include a two-course dinner, entertainment from a Queen tribute act and dancing until late.
