FIREFIGHTERS have returned today to the scene of a big gorse and grassland fire to tackle hot spots.
Five fire engines from Scarborough, Filey, Pickering, Malton and Robin Hood's Bay - along with a water bowser from Tadcaster and an all-terrain vehicle from Kirkbymoorside- were sent at just after 10pm last night to the blaze in Eastfield, Scarborough.
North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said approximately 6,000 square metres of gorse and grassland were on fire, with firefighting initially hampered by winds.
"Crew used beaters and the all terrain vehicle to apply water," said a spokeswoman. "The cause is unknown at this time."
Crews from Scarborough and Kirkbynoorside have returned to deal with hot spots, where fire breaks out again, and are expected to be there for at least two hours.
