TEN years after their first trio performances, Celtic musical magpies Mike McGoldrick, John McCusker and John Doyle are out on the road again with their blend of folk songs, stirring tunes and charming bonhomie.

On February 26, they play the National Centre for Early Music, York, with tickets for their 7.30pm concert on sale at £20, concessions £18 and £6 for under 35s on 01904 658338 or at ncem.co.uk.

Masters respectively of flute, fiddle and guitar, McGoldrick, McCusker and singer Doyle have shared stages and recording studios with some of the biggest names in popular music, from Bob Dylan and Mark Knopfler to Paul Weller and Joan Baez, as well as being key participants in the annual Transatlantic Sessions tours.

Their debut album, The Wishing Tree, was released last year on the Under One Sky label, divided equally between songs and instrumental pieces, be they jigs, reels or airs. Highlights include the lament Bonny Light Horseman, the rousing Billy O'Shea and the dark storytelling drama of Burke & Hare.

McGoldrick, McCusker and Doyle will be supported by Pickering singer-songwriter Martin Heaton at a gig co-promoted by York's Black Swan Folk Club.
