Unfortunately, even if Peter Rickaby’s letter had just two sentences, he made two mistakes (Tusk won't get his own way with insults, February 11).

Firstly, Donald Tusk has been elected as president of the European Council twice. In 2014 he received David Cameron’s vote and in 2017 Theresa May’s.

Just because we do not elect our Prime Minister directly and the UK voting system creates governments without winning the popular vote doesn’t make him unelected, just not democratically legitimised by the British voters.

Secondly, Mr Tusk did not insult 17.4 million voters.

He said: “By the way, I’ve been wondering what the special place in hell looks like for those who promoted Brexit without even a sketch of a plan how to carry it [out] safely.”

So, to be insulted you must have promoted Brexit (which is OK, we have democratic discourse and everyone is entitled to their opinion), but you must also have done it ‘without even sketch of a plan’.

Who would do that anyway?

Curate’s egg will be end result of Brexit

THE Brexit debate appears to be becoming more Lilliputian by the minute.

Whether it be the Big or the Little enders that win the day, I’m sure that they will find the curate’s egg is the result.
