CASH was stolen in a burglary at a tea rooms in Selby at the weekend.

The incident at Market Lane Tea Rooms happened on Saturday between 7pm and 7.25pm, North Yorkshire Police said.

The force added that the offender/s have entered the building via the ceiling and carried out a messy search of the premises.

It said about £100 was stolen along with the CCTV system.

A spokesperson for the force commented: "A full investigation into the incident has been launched and house-to-house inquires have been carried out. CCTV opportunities are also being explored.

"We would like to reassure the community that we are working to identify the person or people responsible and would appeal to anyone who was in the area and noticed anything suspicious near to or outside Market Lane Tea Rooms on Market Lane, Selby to contact police. Your information will be looked at thoroughly and could really help our inquiries.

“We are also keen to hear from anyone who may have heard anything about the incident in the days since to contact us with any information.”
