HEAVY machinery was brought in today to dismantle the former B&M store in Clifton Moor after it was destroyed by fire in the autumn last year.

N Jagger Ltd started the demolition work with Nigel Jagger pictured in the Caterpillar excavator cutting the metal work away from what is left of the shell of the fire damaged building.

B&M has said that all former employees from the fire-hit shop had been offered their jobs back and firefighters who tackled October's blaze we invited to open a new store just a few yards from the old B&M store in Clifton Moor last week.

In a statement, the company said: “The team from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue really stood out for us, they go the extra mile for local people in the community on a daily basis.

“We wanted to give them some VIP treatment as a thank you for all the hard work they’ve done.”
