THE Burning Duck Comedy Club welcomes Alfie Brown to York on Saturday with his Lunatic show.

Brown is on his first British tour after a sold-out Edinburgh Fringe stretch last summer and a November and December run at the Soho Theatre, London

Apparently charming and disgusting in equal measure, he will discuss identity politics, trying to be a good father in a horrible world and being responsibly horny in the wake of widespread male sex crimes.

Brown provides no answers, only questions, as he conducts a search-and-destroy mission in response to society’s new-found fondness for moral certainty. “They were wrong all along,” he reckons. “It turns out if you believe in something, you’ll fall for anything.”

Brown, from South West London, is the son of impressionist Jan Ravens and Spitting Image musical director Steve Brown and always foresaw live comedy as his destiny. He started performing stand-up in August 2006 at the age of 18 and now plays clubs and universities nationwide.

He appeared on BBC2’s The Grumpy Guide To Teenagers, a spin-off from the Grumpy Old Men series and, away from comedy, he describes himself as a “dramatically large Liverpool FC fan”.

Tickets for his 7.30pm show at The Basement, City Screen, York, are on sale via burningduckcomedy.com
