EMERGENCY services were called to help a man who was reported to be in distress on Millennium Bridge last night, Sunday.
Police were called to the scene at about 8.20pm and officers were on the scene within minutes.
A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Police said officers spoke with the the man, who was extremely upset.
Firefighters and the York Rescue Boat were also called to the scene to help.
The police spokeswoman said: "After about 45 minutes, he was detained under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act, for his own safety, and taken to a medical facility to receive the support he needs."
