A MAN "grabbed a little girl's hand" as she walked to school according to police, who have urged parents to be vigilant.

Selby District Safer Neighbourhood Team said the incident happened yesterday at about 8.45am as the girl walked to Snaith Primary School and thankfully she managed to get away and arrive safely at school.

They said other primary schools have also been notified and alerted parents.

A police spokesman said: "The male was described as being aged between 30 and 40 years, with a long face, short stubby beard, short brown hair brushed to the side and shaved on the side and was described as having grubby hands. He was reported to be wearing blue jeans and a black leather jacket."

They urged parents to speak to their children about staying safe and report any suspicious activity on 101 or 999 in an emergency.
