POLICE swooped on a supermarket petrol station in York this morning and arrested a man in connection with an alleged violent incident in the city centre.
North Yorkshire Police said the incident in Micklegate was reported at about 7.15am.
Two police cars and one unmarked vehicle were later seen at Morrisons petrol station in Foss Islands Road.
A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Police said: "Officers responded and arrested a 36-year-old man for affray and possession of an offensive weapon.
"He remains in custody for questioning."
Ann Bolland, shop assistant at the station, said that three police cars drove round the back of the station.
She said: "An officer came in and said that everything was under control."
