AFTER receiving 50 expressions of interests from Yorkshire artists and photographers, Pairings Wine Bar, in Castlegate, York, has selected a pairing of Lin Taylor and Kate Semple for exhibition from this week to May 6.

Creating picturesque, quirky and uplifting pieces, both York artists look at the simple pleasures in life, such as nature and food.

Landscape artist Lin Taylor favours acrylics and watercolours and has exhibited at various prestigious venues across Yorkshire. “Now I’m really excited about the opportunity to exhibit my paintings at Pairings Wine Bar,” she says. “Walking and travelling worldwide has been my inspiration to paint landscapes. This exhibition showcases 14 of my colourful landscapes, inspired by the natural beauty that surrounds us, and I’m also be displaying work painted on real feathers, having seen feather paintings in Peru.”

Kate Semple is an experienced graphic designer and illustrator who creates all her works electronically and draws inspiration from her travels, observing the beauty found in architecture and everyday life.

“I’m so happy to be able to exhibit at Pairings,” she says. “I aim to capture my focal point’s character through my work so that audiences see the object in a different light. I create work based on a wide range of topics, from insects to buildings, and from food and nature too.”

Pairings Wine Bar celebrated its third birthday last October, an anniversary that sparked the owners, sisters Kelly and Kate Latham, into creating an exhibition space. They have been thrilled by the response from artists wanting to exhibit there, saying: “Our exhibitions have been going really well. In fact our last exhibitors, Greg Winrow and Rebecca Jayne, sold quite a bit of their work, which was a delight to see.

“Our guests are enjoying exploring the art on display and it’s been a joy to have new guests coming into our venue to enjoy a glass of wine while taking in the art that surrounds them. We’ll be changing the space every three months so that a wide range of artists can exhibit their work here. We’re passionate about offering a space that everyone can enjoy and by bringing art into our wine bar it offers that extra little special something to the space.”

Taylor and Semple are showcasing a diverse range of acrylics, watercolours and mixed-media designs, with the artwork being available for purchase directly from the artists. Lin’s work can be viewed on the artist corridor on the lower ground floor; Kate’s designs are in the bar area.

Pairings Wine Bar is open Sunday to Thursday, 12 noon to 11pm, and on Fridays and Saturdays, 11am to midnight. Any artist wanting to exhibit there this year should email Ellen Cole at ellen@pairings.co.uk.
