DETECTIVES say a man in his 50s suffered multiple stab wounds in an attack in York.

A spokesman said the incident happened on the cycle path in Fifth Avenue, and was reported by a member of the public who saw "a number of people in the area involved in an altercation".

He said: "The victim, a man in his 50s, was subsequently taken to hospital with multiple puncture wounds to his abdomen and hand. The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

"Police are appealing to anyone who was in the Fifth Avenue and cycle path area on the evening of Saturday, January 26 and either witnessed the disturbance or saw any suspicious people or vehicles to contact them."

Although the assault happened at about 8.30pm on Saturday, January 26, North Yorkshire Police have only just released details of the attack.
