SO, a survey shows high levels of public dissatisfaction with policing in North Yorkshire (Report reveals policing concerns, January 30).

On the same page we learn that the person nominally in charge of policing in the county, Julia Mulligan, is planning to increase the council tax precept to pay for new officers.

Does anyone else appreciate the irony of a Conservative Police Commissioner complaining that she doesn’t have enough officers to provide a satisfactory service and will have to raise taxes to pay for them?

Would this Julia Mulligan be linked in any way to the Conservative Party which has backed cuts in police funding since they came to power in 2010, despite being told that this would result in the very problems she is now facing?
