WARNING signs have been put in place on Castle Mills Bridge after a spate of cycling accidents on the corner of Piccadilly in York.

The Press reported that 20 more cyclists have come forward to say they have had accidents - many being described as “inexplicable” - on a stretch of York road.

This comes after a campaigner claimed that eight cyclists had suffered broken wrists on the same stretch of road.

City of York Council, who apologised to the cyclists who hurt themselves at the junction, said the signs have been put up while work is done to place anti slip treatment on the road surface.

James Gilchrist, assistant director of transport, highways and environment said: “Following several reports of cyclists suffering falls in the area we inspected the area and found no defects in the surface, but have decided that, in response to the reports, we will place some anti slip treatment on the surface.

“Until that work has been completed we have placed some warning signs in the area given the number of incidents that have come to light.”
