THINK you know all about the local book scene? Fancy pitting your knowledge against other bookworms in a charity quiz with a difference? Then City Screen's Basement Bar will be the place for you on February 19.

Last year, a group of York-based authors organised a Great York Literature Quiz in memory of Helen Cadbury, the York poet and crime writer who died tragically in 2017.

Last year's sell-out event raised over £700 for charity, including a contribution to the memorial bench for Helen in Glen Gardens.

The quiz, presented by bestselling thriller writer Tom Harper, who lives right here in York, will return for a second 'edition' on Tuesday February 19, at 7pm in the Basement Bar. Proceeds this time will go to Booktrust and Storybook Dads.

"Last year's quiz was a fantastic evening that brought together authors, readers and book lovers from all across York," says Tom. "This year, we think it can be even better.

"When we started out, we wanted to celebrate Helen Cadbury's life by doing something that would be thought-provoking, worthwhile, and most of all fun.

"Helen had a long-standing passion for making the arts accessible, especially through her work in prisons. I'm delighted that this year we're supporting two charities that bring the joys and benefits of reading to every corner of society.

'Storybook Dads records prisoners reading bedtime stories for their families, so that their children can still have the experience of being read to by their parents.

"Booktrust puts books in the hands of every child born in England and Wales, and fosters a love of reading as they grow up."

Tickets cost £10 and are available from the City Screen box office on 0871 902 5747 or from picturehouses.com/cinema/York_Picturehouse/film/the-great-york-literature-quiz

Participants can come in teams of up to six people, or turn up on their own and find a team on the night.
