FORECASTERS have issued a yellow warning for snow and ice in York and North Yorkshire tomorrow and early on Wednesday.

Vehicles have begun gritting York's roads this evening and are expected to work through the night to cover all of the city's key routes as temperatures tip below zero.

A map of the streets due to be gritted can be found here.

Sleet is expected between 10am and 5pm tomorrow, when it is forecast to snow between 5pm and 8pm, potentially affecting rush hour traffic.

Forecasters say some roads and railways are likely to be affected, with longer journey times by road, bus and train services, and there could be some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.
