PICK Me Up Theatre and York Stage Musicals performers are to Raise The Roof in a fundraising concert for the John Cooper Studio @41 Monkgate, York, on February 2.

The two companies have chosen favourite songs from the shows for a cabaret night whose ticket sales will go towards fixing the theatre's roof. The 7.30pm programme will feature hits from the classics, such as Les Miserables and West Side Story, alongside selections from newer shows such as Songs From A New World.

Taking part will be Katie Melia; Alexa Chaplin; Kirsty Hughes; Joe Wawrzyniak; Frankie Bounds; Robert Readman; Sam Hird; Mark Hird; Adam Price; Natalie Walker and Iona Kaye. So too will Emily Chattle; Alexandra Mather; Tracey Rea; Maggie Smales; Pat Parry; Beryl Nairn; Adam Sowter; Florence Poskitt; Dave Todd and Jonny Holbek. Sam Johnson is the musical director; Tech 247’s Adam Moore is in charge of sound and lighting and the bar is sponsored by York Gin.

The show’s organisers, Joanna Hird, from Pick Me Up Theatre, and Nik Briggs, from York Stage Musicals, say "the evening will showcase the amazing talent our county has to offer". "We hope people will like the mix we’ve come up with," adds Nik. "There are upbeat numbers and heart-rending ballads; a chance for a good laugh and a good cry."

Theatre @41 Monkgate chairman Jim Welsman is delighted that so many singers have rallied to the call to put the show together. "Our wonderful old building is in desperate need of repair and this is a great way to start our Raise The Roof campaign," he says. "This will be the first of a series of events and activities to help bring in much-needed funds.”
