THE intransigent, irresponsible and arrogant behaviour of Theresa May is breathtaking and terrifying. The shambolic mess of Brexit is her fault.

She, as Prime Minster of a minority government, decided to put her party’s interests before those of the nation, giving in repeatedly to the right wing no-deal Brexiteer MPs and their friends. They reward her by ‘patriotically’ moving their company HQs out of the UK for ‘global reasons’ (eg Jacob Rees Mogg and James Dyson).

Theresa May pressed ahead with Article 50 before she had a plan. Theresa May chose her own ‘red lines’. Theresa May refuses to take no-deal Brexit out of the negotiations.

She and David Cameron will go down in history as the two most incompetent post-war Prime Ministers, whose actions have resulted in a formerly dynamic economy being now threatened with a period of uncertainty and collapse.

Questions need to be answered on EU

BEFORE we are bamboozled into a second referendum there are questions to be answered.

Who will appoint the inevitable committees and on what criteria?

Who will decide the questions and how will they be put?

What will be the electorate - anybody over 16? Expatriates in Europe and the rest of the world?

Who will control postal voting and translate the questions into which languages?

All aspects will be subject to challenge and appeal in court, judicial review, Supreme Court and European Court?

Who will pay? Legal Aid, crowd-funding or wealthy individuals with an axe to grind?

I foresee no Brexit, even richer London lawyers and festering national resentment.

There are pitfalls to us staying in the EU

THOSE expressing views on these pages and in Parliament in favour of the EU and against Brexit surely haven’t taken into account the pitfalls of ‘staying’ in the EU.

I would ask them to acquaint themselves with the content of the Lisbon treaty, which the UK would be compelled to adhere to when it comes into force in the early 2020s.
