SIX extra bedrooms could be created at a city centre hotel.

Ibis on The Mount has applied for planning permission to turn a billiard room, first floor conference room and toilet area into new bedrooms.

The building is Grade II-listed and was originally built as two houses in the 1830s.

The application says: “The proposed alterations are intended to repurpose underused or redundant areas of the hotel and to increase the number of guest bedrooms. The proposed works are all internal and will be undertaken using methods to preserve the historic fabric of the building. Existing internal features such as cornices and feature panels will be retained and all new partitions will be constructed to be easily demountable in the future.”

It adds that the building was commissioned by Alderman William Dunsley, who was Lord Mayor of York twice. The hotel currently has 91 bedrooms.
