CELEBRITY hairdresser Andrew Barton took centre stage at this year's York College hair, beauty and make-up competition.
Andrew was head judge at the annual contest which saw about 180 full-time students and apprentices work to produce cutting edge styles in the following categories: celebrity, historical hair, prom-look, 1920s & 1940s styles, creative hair, cover girl looks and fantasy.
Andrew, who is a former British Hairdresser of the Year, also showcased his own talents at a special event held in the college's Alan Ayckbourn Theatre, in front of an audience of students, staff, employers and guests.
Sarah Seaman, head of division for hair, beauty and holistic therapies, said: “We are very proud to run the competition and work in collaboration with hairdressing royalty Andrew Barton and our current degree-level students. From the very start of the competition the standard of work produced set the bar very high, clearly showing that our students have the necessary skills to enter industry - they all have great futures ahead. The icing on the cake was the most fabulous evening of hairdressing by Andrew Barton which was inspirational, creative and really pushed the boundaries of hair design.”
Andrew Barton is the figure head of his own hairdressing empire. With an award-winning signature hair care range he is currently the Creative Director of two well-known industry brands; Racoon and Headmasters. With thirty years hairdressing experience, his expertise inspired students studying the Foundation Degree in Media Make-up, Special Effects & Hair Design when they worked together to judge each part of the College’s in-house competition.
